PEPPERS

PeppersThe color can be green, red, yellow, orange, and more rarely brown, white, rainbow lavender and dark purple. It all depends on the variety of pepper. The name pepper is somewhat misleading. It was the name Christopher Columbus used when he encountered them in the Caribbean. The reason he called them peppers was because, like black and white pepper they have a spicy hot taste. After introducing them in Europe, they were grown as botanical curiosities in the gardens of monasteries. Originally native to Mexico, Central and South America, today peppers are cultivated around the world and used in almost all cuisines.
