MUSHROOMS
Mushrooms are as mysteriously unique as they are delicious. Even though most of us think of them as a vegetable, mushrooms are really a type of fungi, which is a special type of living organism that does not have any roots, leaves, flowers, or seeds. In other words mushrooms are not vegetables. In fact, technically speaking, mushrooms are not even plants. But these tasty morsels are gaining in popularity. There are many varieties to choose, from fresh cultivated mushrooms to those only grown in the wild.
Some of these mushrooms are fairly common, and therefore well known by customers. Other varieties are as foreign to customers as if they came from another planet. This course looks at the various types of mushrooms as well as how to tend to them while in the store. They are one of the items in the produce department that has unique requirements.
